POST FORTIFIED OAT FLAKES

Okay, so some of the inspiration for this little blog came from a cereal...my favorite as a kid. Post Fortified Oat Flakes. They disappeared some time in the 1980s. There are other oat flake cereals, but none that even come close to Post's. There's a whole Web site of people looking for Post to bring them back (see link below), and adding your name may help inspire them to reintroduce them to the market!

  1. I * loved* Fortified Oat Flakes!!! It's nice to know someone else remembers them.

The product I have been looking for even a photo of is the original Head Shampoo from the 1970s. It was gel like and pink colored, it smelled amazing and we used to by it in the health food stores. I'm surprised I can't even find a photo of it.

Thanks for this fun page. I remember Lemon Up ... we used to use it then lay in the sun to lighten our hair %-).

  2. I loved these things. Not too sweet with a toasted oak, nutty flavor. Best with whole milk. My sister found a similar product, but said it didn't taste as good.

  3. POST really dropped the ball when they allowed “Fortified Oat Flakes” to fail.
There is nothing like them in flavor and texture. They are simply GOOD!
I am surprised that such a great product would be discontinued.
The fact that most everyone I speak to about POST “Fortified Oat Flacks”, they don’t know what I am talking about. This tells me that its not the product that failed, but the marketing was inadequate.
The name “Fortified Oat Flakes” does not do the product justice.
POST needs to assign the project of bringing this GREAT cereal back to the store shelves to someone in their Marketing Department. They might rename it to make it more appealing. Once it is tasted I can see the customer buying it repeatedly.
I don’t think POST realized that their “Fortified Oat Flakes” were the best tasting in the world.
I hate to see them experiment with new cereals and try to make a HIT cereal with mixed nuts and dried clumps of, “who know what” when the best tasting oat flakes are under their noses the whole time.
    BRING THEM BACK! PLEASE.
    Jeff W.

    2. Yes, please bring them back. I have been looking for them for years. They were the best flake cereal. Also, I think they would make a great Chex-type cereal. Life is as close as they get but Life is a multi-grain cereal not strictly Oats.

  5. I love them too. I can't find anything that tastes quite like Post Fortified Oat Flakes. I don't understand why they do not sell them anymore but sell all those other sugary oat cereals.

  9. I absolutely loved Fortified Oat Flakes. They were "Dad's" special cereal that he kept in a high cubbard. Once in a while, when he was in a giving mood, he would share a bowl with me. I loved them. I remembered they disappeared off the shelves for a while and then came back. I bought them whenever I was at the store. Then they vanished again. What I would give to have a box of that cereal to share with my kids. They would love it. Their taste was so unique. No other brand of flakes ever came close.

  15. I loved this cereal. It was my favorite cereal, even beating out Grape Nuts cereal. I used to hide it from my sisters. I did this so I could have a bowl Mon._ Fri. and not have to eat something I didn't like.
It was so great tasting that you didn't need to add sugar or fruit. I would even put some in a baggie to eat while horse backing riding. or hiking. Honey Bunches of Oats is good but not as good as Fortified Oat Flakes. I really wish Post would bring them back.

  46. I was born in 1962. I had a great aunt that I was named for her long deceased husband who made me feel more special than anyone has in my life. When we would visit she would alway give me a bowl of Post Fortified Oat Flakes. She would put cream on top and it was special. Years later I sent a girl friend out to the store to get some for me. She came back telling me the store didn’t have them and I called her everything but a child of god stupid, because of course they had them. I had been buying and eating them for my whole life. Post you make cereals that no one has this attachment to. Why not bring back a winner!
